Windows XP back by popular demand
In a reaction to customer demand, Dell has restarted selling PCs with Windows XP installed. The change came after Dell's feedback site was swamped with calls for the return of the venerable software. Now customers can opt for the Home or Professional version of XP on six models of Dell machines.

Eventually, Vista will be viable for people who rely on their computers for their businesses. Until then, XP is more practical choice. Good job, Dell!

Ideally Dell should dump Windows entirely and pre-load all their computers with Linux, but that can't happen because of Microsoft's monopolistic stranglehold on the PC market. Here's hoping that the Vista fiasco will make more people turn to Linux!

Going from XP to Vista reminds me of going from Win98 to WinME. The experience, well, kind of blows. I like XP. I've given Vista a swing, both single user and enterprise wide usage, and, well, it still blows. That you can't buy a system without Vista pre-installed has only driven me to build my own system just to install Win XP. I like the network functionality of Win XP. It's that or Linux, baby.
